PAG(B)ASA
I start my day with a cup of coffee and a newspaper that comes very handy. As I browse through the pages, I can’t help but get disappointed with the news about corruption, crimes, and other inhumane activities that have seemingly become a common scenario here in the Philippines. As I walk to the bus station, everything seemed ordinary except for the poster on top of the waiting shed that I normally walk pass through. For some strange reason, today was different because as I saw the sign that says “Pagbasa†(the letter B has a lighter color, making the word appear more like PAG ASA). I was enticed to stare at it for a good whole 10 minutes and just ponder on what this piece of word wants to convey. I mean, is there really hope in reading when all you read in the newspaper is a bunch of negative events that happen in the society, and when you step out into the streets of the metro you see kids living in extremely inhumane conditions and homeless people begging for a coin or two? Indeed, seeing such can only remind a person that perhaps there is no hope lying in the corner, so what’s with all these inspiring quotes when reality shows you otherwise?
